This is what I think I should start calling the Latin Americanisation of US politics. That is to say, the continuing process whereby the script of US politics (or at any rate of the Partido Republicano) is written by Gabriel García Márquez, Jorge Amado, Alejo Carpentier, and Mario Vargas Llosa, while under the influence of both Kafka and too much rum.
