I need glasses for reading and driving but not for middle distance. The one thing that needs to be done at the pool is to make sure the lifeguard understands that you cannot see him well, you cannot read lips if he's saying something (and there are echoes off water that blur it) and if he wants to talk to you he has to come to you.
