So having just posted about the tragic unavailability of fresh tomatillos in Ontario, I went off to the garden centre -- well, actually the big tent in the parking lot of the No Frills supermarket, but whatever -- to buy all the vegetables we'll grow this summer, and what did I find there? Tomatillos. I bought two flats of them. So I guess we'll be okay for salsa verde after all.

Now if only naproxyn grew on trees ...

2 flats?

When I said I planted tomatoes, I meant 7 plants, total. You work on a somewhat larger scale than that, with your gardening, don't you? Man, that sounds like serious labor.

And I'll get to see it all, come August.

Well, it was only six plants per flat, so not that much bigger a scale. And I think Fishwhistle planted all of them.

But in the past week we also planted 2 watercress, 4 raddichio, 8 spinach, 4 arugala, 1 eggplant vine, 1 cucumber vine, 15 tomato plants (4 varieties), 6 fennel, 1 zuccinni, 4 brussels sprouts, roughly a dozen assorted herbs, and a rasberry bush. And that's just the vegetable garden. A whole lot of other stuff went into the new flower beds out front.

Thus, you see, the urgent need for naproxyn. Or morphine.

And, whoops, I forgot! beets and onions as well.

??? You can't buy fresh tomatillos in T.O.? Like, ever?

That would be terrible! But it is clearly untrue. Yay.

Yes it's true, I have never seen fresh tomatillos for sale here. But that's okay! I will grow my own! All will be well!

That's insane. *disapproves*

I can get them at the farmer's market in my neighborhood. But my neighborhood, in a surprise twist, is apparently actually becoming one of the 2 main centers for Mexican immigrants in NYC. Which may explain the very good tamales for $1.50.
