Eh, I did read a few issues of the Nick Fury comic back in, um, probably sometime around 1973. Maybe 1972. Anyway, my point is: it's been a while.
So yes, this is mostly about the movie-verse. Or fanfic about the movie-verse, to be precise. As Executrix pointed out in the comments to the LJ crosspost, fixing the broken bits of canon is one of the things fanfic is for, and I'm wishing for fanfic that fixes some of the stuff that seems broken to me, as a historian; and then I'm wishing still more for fanfic that does not break things even worse. I get that the Marvel guys pushed the desegregation of the US armed forces backwards in time For Reasons. I just think they shouldn't have, and I want fanfic that doesn't respect their reasoning, and does respect something that I will very loosely call historical accuracy.
