See, I keep seeing stuff about pop music of various kinds in fics (along with, endlessly, Tony making Steve watch Star Wars movies) and it ... doesn't work for me. Or at least it hasn't so far. Remember that when Steve began hibernating, the phrase "rock and roll" was only used to refer to sex, and even then used mainly in blues songs. Doo-wop hadn't been invented yet; Elvis was in grade school; transistor radios were still two decades in the future; there were no 45 rpm records (no "singles") and I'm not sure about 33 1/3 rpm records. Rock music as we understand it began to be recorded in the early 1950s as far as I know, and it was recorded as "race music," that is, music created by African-Americans for an audience of African-Americans. Even the airwaves were segregated! Some white people - Elvis, for instance - were listening to black radio stations as rock was being invented, but they were quite exceptional.
So I'm waiting for the fic in which Steve turns out to have been receiving radio signals while he slept under the ice, and is therefore able to understand what Tony's tee-shirt refers to. Otherwise, eh, for me this is not going to work as a fictional device to allow for a discussion of musical taste.

Your mileage may vary, of course!
