Well, the laptop is functional again, and about fucking time. So I am putting all the software back on, and that, my dumplings, my ducks, my dears, is where you come in. I need an IRC program, the simpler the better, and I had a perfectly good free one that somebody pointed me to, but now I can't remember who or when so I can't figure out where it is to reload the thing and so if you would be so kind as to point me to one, that would be nice.

Also I am told that there is software out there that takes music from your iPod and puts it on your iTunes, and that it is free, and that works for Windows. Does anyone know anything about this? Or am I just hallucinating again?

We are finally getting some real snow. If Fishwhistle would just come home from the lab we could do a little late skiing, just around the neighborhood. But it looks like the storm is settling in for a while so maybe we can ski in the morning instead. Hey, maybe I could ski all the way to the gym!

In other news, the one huge-ass assignment I took on for my job -- you know, the working an extra ten to twenty hours a week thing for six weeks committee chairpersonship? -- is almost done. One more report to write, one more meeting to attend, y ya! finito! Which is good, because it is now time to start reading graduate admission files.

But next year I'm not doing any committee work.

I'm sure other people will offer fancier IRC programs to you, but I've used mIRC for years, and it works just fine:

http://www.mirc.com/get.html

(and yes, it'll tell you it wants you to register after awhile, but feel free to ignore that if you need to)

Ah-hah! thank you! I think that was the program I was using before the Great Hard Drive Catastrophe of '07, so this is perfect. Yay!

Netscape has an article about ways to rip music off of an ipod and into itunes. I've used a program called IPODRIP that y ou can get via cnet, but I don't know if it's currently free, or how well it works on Windows, as I last used it about a year ago.
